Saturday 7:30 p.m.-10:00

Introduction: Cathy will ask Peggy if she will do it.

  1. Workshop Discussion- Do we need four a year?  Or would we want to do shorter ones?

We used to do 3 workshops plus the retreat.

  • Feedback: Karen said she enjoys the workshops.  Jennifer said she enjoys it when they are workshops, not lectures.  Deborah said she always requests for experiential elements, but sometimes the speakers don’t actually do this.
  • Karen suggested doing 2 shorter workshops (9 AM-1 PM) and 2 longer ones.  Don suggested this could be good since we would have a new data point to see if this affected people’s attendance.  Deborah said we would try this next year.
  • The group was interested in having Steve Buser do a lecture and workshop.
  • Jennifer said David Bedrick in Santa Fe, NM would also be a good choice for a workshop.
  1. Sound Glitches- any way to make this not so much of a wild card? Becca used the earpiece, which worked better than all the ones before.  Don said the sound is as good as it is going to get.
  • Don is recording, but he stopped selling them online because no one was buying.
  1. Computer- PowerPoint and Images- Cathy asked- should we purchase a computer?  The problem seems to be that speakers don’t know how to hook their computers up to the projector.
  • Deborah shared that David Solem had shared the Jung Society in New Mexico has their own computer.  This allows for consistency.
  • Bill and Deborah agreed to research options.

BOOK SALES (Deb and Bill)

  1. Deb asked about Book Expenses on the treasurer report ($1, 240).  Deb shared that she attempted to make some purchases in December, but the sale did not go through until January.  She clarified that she did not need to be concerned about the budget.  Don agreed and said they can buy as much as they want, if they are selling.
  2. Inventory- Bill shared that there are books that haven’t moved in a while.  Those may be worth discounting.  Chiron recently sent some books that were overstocked.  Bill is going to sell those at the next events. We sold out of The Red Book readers at Becca Tarnas’ event.  We are going to re-stock these as soon as they are back in print.  Deb suggested we check with Chiron.
  3. Cathy asked if we have any books at home.  No one said yes.  Bill does have some CDs at home that he will bring in since the CD stock is now lower.
  4. Bill asked if we could get some new storage crates.  The ones we have are cracked.  On Amazon, you can get 6 for $130.  The board agreed for Bill to purchase these.
  5. Deb asked for Bill’s help in purchasing books.  Bill asked that Deb send her an email with a list of books she’s interested in buying.  Deborah, Z, and Karen expressed interest in the Toni Wolff and C.G. Jung book.  Deborah suggested getting 25 of Jerry Wright’s book if we can return the books.
  6. Catherine Meeks edited a book that is on Amazon.  Bill asked Deborah if she could ask if she has a connection with Morehouse and if we could get the books at a discounted rate.

MEDIA/ SOCIAL MEDIA/ FACEBOOK (Bill)

  1. Jennifer shared that when she asks, people say they heard of JSA through Facebook.  Bill suggested boosting it from $35 to $45 to see if that would have an effect.  The board took a vote and unaminously agreed to do this.
  2. Bill talked about Amazon Smile.  It’s set up for charities.  Don said that JSA has an account with Amazon.  Bill found JSA on Amazon Smile.  Don is going to look into this and advertise this in the newsletter.

ATTENDANCE (Don)

  1. Don passed out the attendance sheet.  Karen noted that we are doing as well or better than last year.  Deborah reminded the board that this April makes it a year since we have been meeting at the new space.

MEMBERSHIP DATA BASE (Jennifer)

  1. Jennifer had no comments.

NEWSLETTER/WEB (Don)

  1. Don shared that he got some feedback from his email.  Jennifer offered doing an article.  Cathy suggested asking our upcoming speakers.  Deborah said she would ask them.
  2. Deb offered to do a music review on 2 CDs (John Prine “The Tree of Forgiveness” and Willie Nelson “Last Man Standing”).

PUBLICITY (Cathy)

  1. Cathy expressed difficulty with putting out postcards.  They are too big.  They are also very expensive.
  2. Cathy sent info on Becca and Honora to NPR.  Nothing has materialized.  She is also going to send info on Catherine Meeks.
  3. Deborah suggested advertising this next event on Atlanta Planit.  They do some advertising on the radio.  Cathy said she is not sure how to do this without paying a lot of money ($6,000/month).
  4. Cathy put our name in to do the Georgia Public Television telethon.
  5. Cathy asked for suggestions on where to advertise.  Bill suggested she look into Hometown News.  Jennifer suggested the book fair in Decatur over Memorial Day Weekend.

Discussed increasing membership fees for next year.  We passed the motion to increase Student rate to $40, Individual rate to $60, and Couple rate to $100 for 2018.  We will also do a one time offer for members to renew before December 31, 2017 at the present rate.  We are going to do away with the half-year membership fees.

BOOKS AND MEDIA (Deb)

  1. Don reminded us to not use “Custom Amount” on iPads.  On iPad, when people buy books, go under Items, enter books, and put the total amount for the books they bought.
  2. Book sales seem to be brisk- sold all of Ashok Bedi’s books

  4. Primer packet of terms – Cathy made 10 more copies of Pete’s basic definitions.

TREASURER’S REPORT (Don)

  1. Don reviewed the treasurer’s report, highlighting that attendance has been much lower.  This has made us come in under our expected income (currently at -$10,312).  He is hopeful Hollis will help balance this some.

    4. Deborah asked if we want to book Hollis for 2018.
      1. Cathy suggested that if we don’t get Michael Meade, we should go with Hollis.

  3. Don suggested rotation of coverage for the front desk.  Jennifer said she is happy to train people.

PUBLICITY (Cathy)

  1. We agreed that sending postcards two months prior to the event would be better than current practice of sending them a month prior to the event.
  2. We made a donation to The Council of Churches so we could use the listserv.  We can do one week a month.
  3. Deborah brought up the fact that the most recent event was not on the Master Calendar. In the past, we have done it the week of.  Cathy believes that for a workshop, we need two weeks notice.  Lectures are ok to do the week of.
  4. MATN, unfortunately, is no longer communicative.
  5. Cathy asked for names to send to Georgia West College.
  6. Jennifer volunteered to put some notecards at the Shambhala center and her daughter will take them to Georgia State University.
  7. Cathy is meeting with people from different churches to have a contact to send 10 postcards to.
  8. Cathy met with Atlanta Planet.  They think we are a good fit.  We need a slogan.  We agreed on “Seeking a more conscious life.”  For $2,000/year, we can get a picture with our sentence.  4x a year, we could have a visual.  WABE can also do an advertisement.  Cathy is going to do a press release to send around.
  9. Cathy has also spoken to Atlanta Magazine.  They do different themes.  Cathy is not sure they are the right audience.

ATTENDANCE (Don)

  1. Brainstorm ways to figure out why people don’t come on Saturday.  Saturdays are crucial to breaking even on weekend events.
    1. Bill suggested sending out a survey to ask members this question.  Cathy suggested we could hand a paper version of this out at our next event.
  2. Bill suggested doing a Jung 101 for a topic of a meeting.  Others commented it has been hard to find someone willing to do this.

ATLANTA JUNG SOCIETY BOARD MEETING

Date and Time:  Sunday August 13, 2017 2-5 PM

Location:  2896 Knob Hill Drive SE

Atlanta, GA 30339

2:14 PM Meeting called to order.

  1. Z read “The Guest House” by Rumi to start the meeting.

April Board Meeting Minutes were approved.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Sound system- Don said the last recording wasn’t good because it was done from the speakers, not from the microphone.  We are going to start bringing out own projector because the other one hasn’t been working well.  Don is going to do sound for the next event.
  2. Steve Buser suggested putting our recordings on the Asheville website and splitting the money.  Don does not feel comfortable sending the last recording to Asheville. Cathy said she spoke with Steve, and they haven’t been selling much.

HOSPITALITY

  1. Z said there was nothing to bring up.

FRONT DESK REGESITRATION

  1. Jennifer had sent an email about needing more help up front.
  2. Peggy shared she felt like things had been going well.  We did have a lot of people sign up for memberships the last time we met.  This created a bit of a back up in line.  Jennifer suggested having a membership table so this doesn’t get so backed up.
  3. We decided for the next meeting to put a white board with membership prices (Cathy), signs on the table (Cathy), clipboards on the benches with someone explaining how that works, and nametags in the main room.
  4. Peggy is going to reach back out to April to see if she is interested in volunteering.

MEMBERSHIP

  1. Renewals
    1. Jennifer had suggested over email doing annual memberships only.  Don addressed this saying it was part of by laws to do it as we do it now.  Z said that we shouldn’t be deterred that we would have to change the by laws.  Z likes being able to do a full year membership.  However, the software piece is challenging.
    2. Don explained that in Quickbooks, you can make a query as to who joined from November-December.  To do memberships annually year round, these queries would have to be done each month.  The newsletter comes through another place.
    3. We agreed that given the staffing right now and the the technology challenges, we are going to keep the full year and half year memberships as is.
  2. Fees
    1. Peggy shared that a lot of people don’t want to pay the $50 up front, but will pay $25 when the lecture is $20.
    2. Karen suggested increasing membership fees all around.
    3. Peggy shared that people weren’t joining at $50 so she is hesitant to increase the fee.
    4. Deborah believed this year was different because the change of venue and also not having a big named speaker in February.
    5. We will decide on whether to raise the fee in the October board meeting.

BOOKS AND MEDIA  (Bob and Deb)

  1. Deb asked for clarity on ordering books.  She has been told she has overbought at times, and other times, she is asked to keep things in stock.
    1. Z explained we are trying to keep the basics because it’s a value to members.
    2. Deborah clarified that we were going to sell the speaker’s books (or a book the speaker recommended) and basic Jung books.  Basic books like Memories, Dreams, and Reflections have been requested.  Also, Bill said that the Red Book reader was also being requested.
      1. Deb noted that this method of selling the book the speaker recommends could become a problem a couple years down the road as we will slowly get a stock pile of speaker’s books.
    3. Are we discounting too much? Bill suggested we didn’t need to keep the firesale going.  He offered to take some books home if there wasn’t room in storage.
    4. Deborah researched the books for the September speaker, Dr. Bedi.  He had said the publisher might let us order some and return ones that weren’t sold.  If this is not the case, Deborah suggested getting 20.  Don and Bill wondered if this was too much. Deb said she would take care of this and the other books. She is going to use Cathy’s address as a secondary.
    5. We will continue the firesale on the non-essential Jung books.
  2. Tapes- Cathy said we sold a lot of tapes last time.

*********************

3:00 PM Meeting called to order

  1. Z read a poem to start the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

  1. Some notes on the new space
    1. Lazo will come at 6:30 PM to open the doors.  We must be out of the new space by 10:20 PM.  At 10:30 PM, an alarm goes off.
    2. We are hiring Lazo to do coffee, water, and clean up.  We will be using their ceramic cups, plates, cutlery, etc.  We pay him per hour.  He will also be doing the sound and AV.  This will be ~$170 for most meetings.  We are able to scale this back as needed.
    3. The side door will be open so no greeter is necessary.  There is an easel we can use to make a sign to know people which door.
    4. Don plans to continue recording the lectures.
    5. Deborah knows how to do the AC.
    6. Deborah is going to get the wireless password(s) for the space.  Don has been not been able to get the hotspot transferred from Bill Marshall.
  2. April meeting
    1. Deb and Bob are in charge of books. The books will be stored in clear containers.  Bill offered to go by Costco or Sam’s to pick up containers for the books and media.  We are going to start with eight containers.
    2. Cathy and Mahshid will exchange hospitality stuff.
    3. Cathy is going to put signs on Trinity Presbyterian’s door for the meeting in April.
    4. Van said she would reach out to change the LPC advertising.
    5. Don will print signs with arrows for the new meeting space.
    6. Deb and Bob are going to bring some of the books.
    7. Peggy will bring registration and name tags.
    8. Ask a volunteer (Judy Maner or Charles Knott) to direct people in the parking lot to the correct entrance.
    9. For April meeting, we will try doing registration in the room to the right. Hallway is too small for a table.
  3. Media
    1. Bill is going to keep selling tapes.  Renting does not seem to be worth the effort.
    2. Do we want to offer the ability to listen to past talks on podcasts to members?

Don suggested more education on podcasts is needed.

Z asked about the cost on this.  Don said the answer is complicated, and we can revisit this idea at a later time.

Bill suggested educating people via the newsletter.

Bill suggested podcasts may work well as an incentive to renew memberships.

Cathy asked if you could earn CEU’s for listening to podcasts.  Deborah says that you would have to have accreditation and tests.

    1. Don brings up the larger topic of the website and whether to upgrade.

BOOKS AND MEDIA

  1. Discussion around if we are going to try to sell all the books or keep some inventory.  Cathy suggests we wait on this decision until the next board meeting.  Deb asked if we should fire sell anything to thin out inventory.  Don and Bill believe that discounting some of the books in April is a good idea.
  2. Do we want to have one person (Bill) sell both media and books sales?  Deb offered to do the sells until Bill gets there, if needed.
  3. Deb said we will see how sells go this month for Beebe’s book.  Will reorder if needed.   Cathy offered to be back up for sales if needed.

Approval of Minutes- Deborah pointed out misspelled names on Programs, as well as the minister’s name was spelled wrong (Jinkins is correct spelling). Z offered to correct. Approval of January 2017 Minutes with corrections as noted.

REGISTRATION (Peggy)

  1. Peggy will be there in April. Jen has confirmed for both April and May.   Peggy will not be there in May.  Karen will not be there for April or May.  Cathy offered to help.  Peggy needs to give registration stuff to Cathy in April.
  2. Van will do CEU’s for May.

TREASURER’S REPORT (Don)

  1. Don reviewed the treasurer’s report and noted that the net income is around negative $2,000.  Actual loss is around negative $5,000.   Annual dues are $2,000 short.  Don said he was not sure why people were not renewing memberships online.
  2. Income budgeted for Feb 2017 was $3,100. We have only made $1,700 so far this year.
  3. Main issue seems to be membership renewals.  Deborah mentioned that usually have to have a big speaker for February to help with membership renewals.  We did not do this year.
  4. Peggy asked about a membership drive.  Don said big speakers have historically been the draw.  Peggy suggests talking about membership drive at the next board meeting after we have settled into the new space.  Deborah suggested we do a push in May for membership.  Cathy suggested having someone at the door promoting membership.  Peggy said this has been part of what they have been doing at the front desk.
  5. Don drew attention to page 4- profit/loss by event.
  6. Don reviewed the Vanguard statement and the Wells Fargo available balance.
  7. Cathy asked if we got everything transferred from Bill.  Don said that he settled this.
  8. Cathy asked if we need to scale anything back.  Don reviewed major expenses (Speaker fee, travel, event income) and said hospitality was not a major cost.
  9. Don said QuickBooks is now $400+ per year.  Hotspot is $50/month.  Bill Marshall has been paying this.
  10. Don said feeling like the podcasts, website, etc. have felt like a black cloud hovering over him.
    1. Bill offered to help with podcast.
    2. Peggy suggested we let things settle.
  11. Treasurer’s report was approved.

Cathy will get a card for group to sign for Bill Marshall’s wedding and to congratulate Dr. Katie Givens Kime.

Call To Order: Vice President and Interim President Katie Givens Kime

Katie called the meeting to order at 2:13 pm.

Welcome Jeanne Shul and Mashid Irvani

Introductions & “What We Each Do”

Minutes

Z sent out the June minutes prior to the meeting.  Cathy made a motion for approval.  Bill Bridges accepted with changes.  Motion passed.

Committee Reports

Nominating Committee (Cathy Shepherd, Van Waddy and Bill Bridges) Katie called a business meeting at the September lecture and presented the nominating committee for election to approve to present the slate of 2017 Officers to be announced and elected in November.

Programs reports: Deborah and Cathy

Last 3 events.  2 Friday night lecture times worked. We had large attendance at both July (Carol Caronis)  and August (Sharon Martin).  78 people. Mary Wells Baron was a wonderful presentation.  Unfortunately not as much turnout – 2 day art and psyche – maybe we needed to do a 1 day.

Coming up: Nov 18/19 Pitman McGehee –

Cathy will introduce.  Mashid volunteered transportation from airport to hotel and back to airport. Arriving 1:33 pm on Friday   Sunday return: 12:20pm.

Dinner on Saturday night at Cathy’s house. Workshop will end at 5pm.  Cathy will get cheese and crackers.  Katie will not be at meeting.  Bill Marshall will either run the meeting or Peggy will.

Pete Williams -December 3rd will be an introduction to Jung and a refresher course.

Other programming stuff – Trinity responded that our requests has to go to the property committee meeting which doesn’t meet until November. Deborah emailed back and asked if this is a new procedure.   Trinity governing body responded they have changed the operating hours of Trinity.  Our requests were beyond their new operating hours. Deborah has requested information as to what the hours are. We may need to change our meeting times, and may need to change our days from Saturday lectures to Friday.  It could be just another hoop to jump through and a matter of procedure. Trinity not super quick on communication

—2017 -Speakers and lectures –  February  Jackie and Marilyn doing sex lecture workshop.  May – lecture workshop with John Beebe on Topology. He doesn’t do a lot of speaking. Fall – September -Ashok Bedi And will speak on the Comparison of Western vs. Eastern Individuation.  And Hollis.  Waiting for dates to plug in cannot publicize yet.  Don’t have all the lectures worked out yet.  Bill Walker is interested but we don’t have a date.

Heard criticism that we have the same speakers,  but attendance is good for these returning speakers – they are popular.  Phil Flores is someone we might ask.  Summer – should we have a Friday night movie ? It’s hard for people and volunteers to get there at 6pm.  Great as long as we can fit it in. We have DVDs.

Ideas for People or topics?   Bill B suggested Ted Friedman. Bill heard him talk on a podcast – centaur manifesto and uses a lot of Jung in fantasy, media, the alternative worlds that folks visit and create digitally. Could be fun to delve into.  Greg Ellison? Alex Escobar? Bobby Paul? Psychoanlytic studies – psycho analysis involved in eastern religion. Katie will approach him.  The Head of Tibeten Monastery and liason with Dalai Lama.? If Bobby Paul would lecture many might come from the Psycho Analytic Institute.

Topic – Gender – in terms of ways it pops up in popular culture – transgender  -like jung said we are both masculine and feminine.  Deborah will ask if sex talk could possibly address this topic.

Postdramatic stress disorder –possibly – a partnership – about trauma and dreams – Katie will think about that one,  Peggy – the veterans place in Columbus in reference to PTSD and might have an interest in talking with us.  Bill will email the guy in Athens.

BUDGET

($7759) how much w’eve lost this year.

Normally we have income from investments in the range of $1400.

We got 16 new members from our last meeting.

Lecture and workshop estimated income was a lot less than we expected.  We expected $15,000   actual was $7865.

Book Income – books are doing fine – we made a lot less money on books but ordered a lot less so we made a fair amount of book income.  The numbers may be off as they are same numbers as last year – they werent adjusted.

Media – have money to spend here.

Since the food table was moved – media rental and books have been up.

Publicity advertising– Creative Loafing ad was really expensive – it was right before Hollis and lowest we had for Hollis – don’t think it really helped.

Social media budgeted for Hadden but we didn’t use Hadden.

PO Box rental – we pay $531 dollars – UPS box we didn’t budget for.

Library computer purchase on hold we did not spend

Accounting Services  $817 for two months. Don stopped that and looking at alternatives.

budget loss was almost  $5000  actual loss was not that far off.

CD sales have gone down by a third.  People don’t use CD’s anymore they use MP3s.  Suggestion: for people like Hollis perhaps we should adverstise at the lecture that you can get tonight’s lecture. We could do point of purchase right then and there on the IPAD., if master didn’t work we could reimburse. If popular we could make copies and have prior lectures ready for sale. Don could run some copies and have for sale. Could advertise this in the newsletter and have an order form.

4th page is loss by event  Feb and April fantastic. Bulkeley we made money,

Do we want to do Bulkeley again –  re: Lucretia of Spain.  A Lucretia dream lecture –

Sept – Mary Wells Baron was a risk, due to format, that we decided to take.

Virginia we lost $ but doesn’t take into consideration new members or the number of regular memberships that came.

Lectures should expect to be negative because – the money is really made in the lecture/workshop.  We have to take into consideration the membership attendance.

Vanguard.  Bonds have done terribly – index bond market and index stock market

historical view of Vanguard money.

Money still in old bank account.  We are not being charged for bank account.

Don has to transfer money from old account to new account – hassle.

Link donation?   2013  we gave $1000.  2007 – $500  2006 – $250.

We haven’t given them anything since 2013.   They make the link available to us even in extreme circumstance, we have a lot of appreciation.  This is our backup, other’s cost a lot.  $1000  is suggested by Cathy Shepperd as soon as possible should do before the end of the year. Cathy made a motion. Deb seconded -giving $1000 to the Link.

Postage and postcards are increasing.

Trinity stayed same, except for Williams Hall. Drastic change – Williams Hall $1100 a day.

Fellowship is now $200 a day.  But they didn’t charge us the higher amount. They revised the price. We pay the $4500 til we figure it out.

Next year we will do the workshop back in fellowship hall.  This means we will need to move the books Friday night and Saturday morning.

Question is in past years we usually do our budget meeting at January retreat but the conversation is too late waiting til then. Publicity is an empty position on our board right now.  Cathy suggested some advisory board people to be on committee for publicity.    We could make better use with money than Creative Loafing.  We need to invest to make money.  Paying someone or a group to do social media – would need to have a committee say yes.  Could be as simple as asking someone to share this on their facebook page in the newsfeed.  We don’t use twitter at all and it is important. People need to see it 3 or more times because they forget about it. Mashid came to Jung society by Facebook.  Also Meetup could be explored.  Idea: offering free membership or stipend to a student to do social media.  Katie –  we send out from Jung society email – list – it would say we offer free membership we looking for a person to fill some key positions – Katie will draft something.   Mail chimp  has app on Ipad. Constant Contact is what we use.  Mail chimp is as expensive as Constant Contact, someone would have to compose a monthly.

Katie will draft an email to get a person to consider this for 2017  free membership and possibly a stipend .   Put reminder in newsletter –  Cathy will ask  John Gentile at Kennesaw.  Could pull in more than one person.  Do we want a committee and highlight.  If undergrad student = generally money is an issue – if they were good – we could make a stipend available or could be free membership and workshops.  Speaking of the “chronologically superior” we need to interest the younger generation.  Jung is not offered in undergrad.  Bill could set up some forums on our website but we would need a moderator to discuss the lectures.

Trinity and charitable drives –  It would be nice for us to donate a little to trinity we could do $25.00.  Food drive right now.  We already make a donation to custodial.  $100 to the food drive? Can send money, food, a gift card.  This could embody part of our consciousness week before Thanksgiving.  Don will send out an email.  Katie will send on behalf of the board and we are initiating in this way.  Anyone coming to Pitman bring something – can add to facebook. Cannot do on postcard as they are already printed.   Cathy will bring boxes and put in several places for contributing food for trinity and a kroger gift $50.  Deb made motion Z seconds Cathy will do it.

Membership fees:  currently for 2016  full year membership  $50 for individual $75 for couple  $25 for student.   July we halve it. Workshop fees are student  $50   non member $70  member $60.  Mary Wells Baron we started 45 minutes late and she was shorter than most.  We  started late at every session for her., however, she did present all the information she had.  Are we better off upping lecture, workshop, or membership fees?  Membership is a great deal.  $80 for a couple  Our membership fees are in parity with others.  CEU’s are a great deal.  If they are coming for CEU’s they will pay for the weekend.  Mary Wells Baron was an exception?  If people complain more we will revisit.  Not a pattern.    Not upping fees.

Membership:  Peggy made motion to keep membership fees only – same for 2017   Bill seconded. Cathy opposed.  If we want to increase lecture workship fees we will want to do it now.  Deb moves that we not change the lecture workshp fees it’s set for six months but we can revisit the discussion in January.

Except for Hollis which commands a higher fee.

iPads and Front Desk.  Don – iPads are reset and rebooted. Can see all the transactions.  Bill needs to stay up at front desk one more time.  The iPads are real easy except when something strange happens. Mistakes to be avoided – some were charged the $25 for lecture instead of the $20.  We need another table for membership.  Will we sell membership this time?  Lecture was $20 and lecture and membership was a deal $25.00   Karen will be here for front desk for November and December.

Frontdesk is covered for the next couple of months.

If you renew 2017 in November and want to buy, you get Pitman and membership level from that point on for whole year.

Somebody paid for 2016 and 2017 membership and didn’t fill out a membership form.  We wipe the membership data base next month  problem if person paid for rest of this year and next year and then they get wiped.  People need to do membership forms.

MEDIA – repositioning is working well.  The codes need to be written down

Bill writes them down and then uses online data base    name of person renting and code of what they rent.

HOSPITALITY – Mashid – Remind Trinity to set out the utensils and napkins. Chris may not realize that.  He is taking care of us instead of Trevarious.   Saturday morning want fruit, and mini bagels. We used to do OJ but too expensive.

NEWSLETTER

One of the best ever.  People responded.  Carol Darnell will contribute in January.

PUBLICITY AND SOCIAL MEDIA

Who is willing to circulate the beautiful postcards for November. Where do postcards need to go who can and where can we take them. Mashid could do 20 easily to Kennesaw and Starbucks and the Psych Dept. Mashid will try and get a GSU contact.  Don will get postcards into mail to her.  Cathy will do to St Phillips and Trinity. Katie will put at Emory if she gets them early enough as she will not be available in later November to circulate.  We need to find a person at GSU and West Georgia that is willing to circulate and propagandize for us.  Don will send to John Gentile.

How about Atlanta Planit, and  Access Atlanta.  Psychological sites.

How about sending to Church Council?

Social Media – Katie – last event and Mary Wells Baron, terrible facebook problems.  Not a big share on facebook

August we rocked. Super robust.

BOOKS

Glitch – Pitman McGehee not listed anywhere that we get a discount.  He sent Deborah the name of the contact person at Houston bookstore. Bob got the books through Amazon.  One more similar problem with the books that Hollis has written.   “Finding Meaning in the Second Half of Life” – at place we cannot get discount.  Hollis has 4 different publishers. Because he is not a high volume guy.

Try and get an account with Ingram the book distributor.  Deborah will give Bob the email for Hollis.

Deb – we are trying to beef up the inventory for the holidays.  Do we want to

go to Houston Jung Society and, does he want to do a booksigning.

Could we get more copies and a higher profit, through the Houston Jung Center is possibly the way to do it.

Bob has 4 books for Hollis but not the other 3.  Pete’s lecture will be a revisit  .  Understanding Jungian psychology. Jackie was asking for a book on sexuality  and Jung.   How about Ann Ulanov’s book on transforming sexuality.

Membership  Jeanne is caught up.

Thank you gift for Bill Marshall – the plaque is normally presented in January

Cathy will ask whether he would rather have in December or January.

NEXT BOARD MEETING Scheduled: Retreat:  Sunday January 15, 1017  1 – 5:30 pm Meeting at Link. Dinner at Cathy’s house

Katie called the meeting to order at 2:17 pm.

Card signing for our beloved Bill Marshall

Welcome Karen Hebert

Introductions & “What We Each Do”

Minutes

Z sent out the March minutes prior to the meeting. Deborah made a motion for approval. Minutes accepted. Motion passed.

Committee Reports:

Treasurer’s report

Don has straightened out lots of mistakes from the profit and loss statement. Investment income from last year had not been included. End of year numbers are correct. Bottom line – 2015 ended in the red ($3,735.27). The reasons include – Trinity fees went way up., paid for treasurer help, paid back taxes and penalty, bought IPADs and a hotspot, postcard costs went up considerably from $700 to $1000. Van made motion to accept the report, Z seconded. All approved.

This year: 2016 Budget column is for the entire year not year to date. Event income will be down, as we did not make as much money on Hollis. Williams Hall cost of $2200 cut into income. Income down across the board. Book income lower than expected. Media sales not robust. Hollis – next year we will do one day in Williams Hall and the next in our regular room for a savings of $900. This year we’ve spent $2000 on accounting help already. Don has pulled the plug on that.

Profit and Loss by event

February and April – made money. Kelly Bulkeley and Hollis – however we had advertising costs, creative loafing, postcards and mailing cut in significantly into profits

Attendance for Michael Meade -250 people – brought us 26 new members.

Even though Carol Caronis was well attended, we did not make money – that doesn’t take into consideration the many number of people who joined that night and got in free.

We have approximately $7000 in our checking account. We have 2 different checking accounts.

We need to close out one – will need Bill’s help.  Online orders and Go payments go to old account.  Don then transfers them to the new account – Don is not authorized to change the account it is going into. We are spending $85.00 an hour for accounting help.  Don can reconcile the checkbook in 5 minutes and they would charge us a $100. The idea is to break the tasks apart.  There are Quickbook people online – will have to determine what is safe to farm out. Something like membership forms data. Fiverr is a popular option for small business. Trusted online help that will do things like digital taxes.  Ways to automate – online orders perhaps with software instead of manual. Don is working on it. Goal is to get a dump of online orders put in file and upload to Quickbooks and process credit cards.

Hospitality is costing us $1500 a year.  In October meeting we need to look at costs and maybe- up our fees.  Food and books are important but need to look at cost.

We need to talk more about room repositioning to maximize book and media sales.

Don said this is not a normal year. Hollis has carried the year in prior years. We would have had $3-4000 extra and then we would expect a down year in a non-Hollis year

Creative Loafing ad went in 2 additions and online presence.

Book sales are off. We usually have pretty good book sales at big events.  New members are usually interested. Exploring alternative sales options – maybe we give them an IOU like Michael Meade did.  We could mention to the audience at lectures – why JSA instead of Amazon  “Book and Media Sales support this organization.”  We could also highlight a book and a tape.

Newsletter suggestion –  Have a book review and recommendation.

Karen mentioned Pacifica does a  Recommended Reading List, we could do something like that.

Postcards – they are important but are costly.

We were projecting a loss of $4888.

Deborah  made a motion to accept Don’s 2016 Treasurer’s Report .  Seconded and passed.

SECRETARY’s REPORT

Z made a motion to remove the JSA Directory from availability to the JSA member population.  Katie seconded. Motion passed.   Don has removed it.

Karen would like a directory of the board members.

PROGRAMS

2016 list see addendum:

Viginia Apperson will do lecture on “The Inner Circle”  subject matter:  as we strive and bustle we leave ourselves behind.  Invitation  into your own inner circle where the only condition is un-conditional love.

Mary Wells Barron will do three lectures, three different topics on art and the psyche. One Friday night, one Saturday morning, one Saturday afternoon which only goes to 3:30.

Van will figure out how to do the CEU’s for this event. Important we offer CEU’s. We need to publicize the CEU’s to the community.

Transportation logistics:  Arrival Friday September 16, 2:10 and take to hotel. Cathy may be able to pick her up. Uber is $20 if we must. Peggy can take her to airport.

WHO is introducing?

.

Pittman McGehee will need TRANSPORTATION.  We will have a dinner with him in October.

Does he want to stay at Cathy’s house?

Sharon Martin – Karen Hebert will introduce

Mary Wells Barron – Jutta may introduce, Virginia is big into art perhaps she is interested.

Virginia Apperson – Katie will introduce

Pitman McGehee – Van will introduce.

Need introductions for Pete Williams, and Mary Wells Barron.

3:38  Break

3:50  Reconvene

FRONT DESK

Karen’s experience at front desk – it’s busy – it is a 2 or 3 person job.

Position involves integrating equipment, interfacing with treasurer, migrating all transactions, Don and Karen will be in conversation about what needs to happen at the end of the evening.

Don brought the new chip reader- Square – don’t know how reliable – this one can be charged

Karen mentioned chip cards can break them. There is a slider and a chip option.

President’s check list for volunteer coverage for eash JSA Event:

Z will get there early, float, be Deborah’s back up liason for interaction with staff before lectures, and put up signs (our sign found in a closet by Trevarious),

Equipment: who will be in possession of the IPADs and hot spot (makes sense for them to live with Karen)– currently in Cathy’s possession – she will get them to the next lecture.

Front desk need for SEPT and OCT as Karen will be gone., she will talk with someone to cover.

Media desk – reposition? Is there an outlet on the other wall? Either wall will do for the August meeting. Still talking swapping food and media.

HOSPITALITY

Mashid Irvani and Val Cleveland are happy to fill in now and then. Can we get a few more volunteers – one or two more people. Incentive –  get your entry paid – Hospitality does not have to be a board position.  Mashid agreed to do August.

NEWSLETTER AND WEB

Thank you Karen for article.  Deadline was this weekend.  Not doing a volunteer spotlight. Does there have to be a Presidents letter on the front?  Yes.  Katie will come up with something.

Next deadline is in 3 months

PUBLICITY

Need to publicize Mary Wells Barron to the art community in Roswell – Deborah.

Postcards: Katie will drop off 100 at Emory and Decatur coffee shops

Don doing postcards, newsletter and emails

Tasks: What list serves were being done before?  Katie going to put on Council of Churches. How about Mythic Journeys list serve?  MATN – do they send out about our JSA events? Our email goes to them, but we have to pay them. Karen will check her work computer and see if Jung Society info is being sent out. Who would know if we are paying them?. Don will look on Quickbooks and see if there is a specific entry for them.

Cathy will look into seeing about hiring someone to get us on NPR

Social media – our dollars continue to go less and less far.  Perhaps give content to people that like us on facebook. Someone like Sharon can give us a boost.  Do you like our facebook page? Just go there and like it. Could be a perk to being a member if you are on facebook and join the page you would get updates.  A group can get more publicity

LIBRARY

We need a computer and a way to do a word reference search, and track check outs. Is Wifi available?    Would be good if you could put in a word like alchemy and bring up everything in our library that pertains.

Ann Williford donated part of Bill Willifords library – 11 boxes of books – Peggy – long and tedious  process to check against our books

There are 6 boxes we won’t use – can try to sell them – we have space limitation.  Could donate the German books to Uta.

Does the Memphis Jung Society have a need for any books? Can give to Bob and Deb and see if they could sell them.

Link does not want to add 2 more bookshelves as they use the space as a meeting room.

NO MORE BOOKS.  We are at capacity.

It will take a great deal of Time and energy to get computer and advertise.

Bill Bridges has made a catalog on “LIBRARY THING” for Media  not Library.

We need to make a commitment leave it as is, and not pay attention to it, or get a computer and make something of it.

Motion made to sideline and put library on hiatus. Passed.

MEMBERSHIP – increased membership numbers

Don –NAMETAGS – Bill Marshall bought two nametag suitcases – do we have room in the closet?  Karen offered to organize nametags – Karen can print them, and Don has the cases at home.

BOOKS – no report on, but they will get a box of them.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE. Need to have 3 people.  No one automatically on it even though there is usually one carry over.  All four officer positions need to be turned over. Max is 2  consecutive terms.  Don could be treasurer again, if we got in a tight spot. That is the only one that could be renewed as he is interim. Katie will put out an email to the whole board .  Van and Cathy? will do it.  We need a third person.

MISCELANEOUS BUSINESS

Cathy asked if JSA has made a donation to The Link this year? Don will check and also see historically what has been done and will bring info to the October meeting.  Don will send Katie an email to put on agenda to discuss how much to donate.

Must discuss in October whether to up fees as the October newsletter needs to publish any change of fees.

Katie will periodically send out reminders for the next board meeting and will send out email about who wants to be on nominating committee.

NEXT BOARD MEETING SCHEDULED: Sunday October 23rd 2 – 4pm.

4:57pm meeting adjourned.
